Rail Terminal Expansion

Mine processor intermodal and rail road operation between the processing plant and Port Adelaide to service an export mining operation in conjunction with Rail Terminal Expansion.

The Challenge

The previous supply chain required two dedicated train sets with each load taking 10 hours to load the product by front end loader onto the trains.

The Solution

Extending the rail loop and hardstand and introducing container reach stackers allowed containers to be filled at the stockpile and transferred to and from the train managed the design, project and contract management to develop a rail loop extension and hardstand from concept to operations within three months.

The Benefits

  • Reduced train loading times and so handling costs by 40%

  • One train could manage the same volume, reducing transport costs by 35%

  • Save time and money in their supply chain and customer was awarded Entrepreneurial Procurement Award for supply chain innovation.
