Rail and Intermodal Project
Feasibility of containerised export supply chain linking ACT with Sydney and Port Botany.
The Problem
To evaluate if an intermodal terminal at Fyshwick linking existing freight rail connections at Goulburn to Sydney and Port Botany was a feasible alternative for exporters and importers to hauling containers on road.
The Solution
Developed bulk and container intermodal and rail operating and business models based on extensive interviews for proposed intermodal terminal. Developed marketing profile and with government and industry developed a case for investment for terminal and rail service for:
Bulk aggregates between ACT and Sydney for construction projects and;
Containerised scrap metal exports and consumption and project imports.
The Benefits
The opportunity to be further studied in a feasibility study that relies on a base load of export scrap metal and domestic transfers of aggregates for construction projects.
